TESTIMONIALS

“The skills, knowledge, mindset and respect of Wes McDougall is one of the best in the Motorsport Industry and I feel very fortunate we had the opportunity to work together for four successful years. For me, Wes helped take my racing career to new heights in a very short space of time, helping me achieve on track success at the highest level of Australian Motorsport. He has the drive and winning mentality, but also know how to keep both the mindset of himself and the driver calm in some of the toughest scenarios, both on and off track. I’ve learnt so many valuable skills from Wes that I still use on the track today. ”

“I was fortunate enough to work with Wes at the start of my Supercars career when I joined Stone Brothers Racing in 2010. Wes was the perfect person for me to learn from and we developed a great relationship that continued until the end of 2013. Looking back on it all now, I wish it could’ve lasted longer! Our results improved year on year and was highlighted by a 5th place championship finishing position in 2012. Wes is not only highly skilled in his trade, but is super passionate and very competitive, something that can’t be taught at university. I also loved that we were in it together, he always backed me which as a driver provided great confidence. ”

“I had the fortunate perspective of watching Wes McDougall develop from an enthusiastic high school student, working part time at Borland Racing Developments, into the accomplished motor racing engineer he is today. Wes combines a strong academic discipline to study, explore and challenge theory, with practical application and hands-on know how; a testament to his formative years working on the cars as he learned his craft. That he has combined all of that knowledge and experience into “The Complete Race Driver” is an exciting development for drivers and engineers of all levels and ambition. I’m very much the “gentleman driver” rather than an aspiring young gun, but I cannot wait to see the improvements in my lap times as I work through the course!”

“I wanted to reach out to let you know that I recently completed your course- The Complete Race Driver. As a self taught motorsport engineer trying to make a mark in the industry - I have never had a mentor (lucky to have met some very supportive professionals around me, however). Your course has been a great learning tool for me and has given me some very valuable professional insights that I will definitely be putting into practice. Thank you for putting out such great content and a job well done. I will definitely keep an eye out for more of your professional insights. Hope to meet you at a race track soon and learn more from you.”

“I’m racing in the Toyota 86 series and I recently bought the course and it’s really been helping me mentally and physically on and off track. Every time I get in the 86 having the sort of mindsets that I learnt throughout the course is definitely improving my skills, and also helping me give better feedback to the engineers too. So thank you very much!”

“I just wanted to let you know that I finished The Complete Race Driver Course yesterday! Thank you for making such an enjoyable and educational program to help drivers like me learn the fundamentals of being a complete race driver. I feel I have taken a lot away from it and I'll be better for it. Thank you!”

Instructor Bio:

Wes started in motorsport with Borland Racing Developments as a junior engineer in 1995 whilst still at high school. During his time at Borland Racing he worked as an engineer on Formula Fords, serviced and dynoed dampers and looked after data logging systems, all while completing a Mechanical Engineering degree at Monash University. Whilst at BRD, he engineered numerous cars and worked with drivers such of such ilk as Jason Bargwanna, Will Power and Mark Winterbottom. Upon completion of his engineering degree, Wes took a job at Lister Cars in England as a race engineer in 2003 where he worked on the company's Lister Storm GT car (in the FIA GT Championship and Italian GT Championship) and the LMP variant which he engineered at the Le Mans 24 hours twice. As well as winning multiple races with the team he also oversaw the wind tunnel refinement of the LMP car. Wes returned to Australia in 2005 to work as a V8 Supercar Data Engineer with Stone Brothers Racing for Marcos Ambrose. Shortly afterwards he was promoted to Race Engineer for James Courtney and during his time with SBR worked with some of the categories most prolific drivers such as Ambrose, Ingall, Courtney, Slade, Holdsworth, Davison and van Gisbergen. Wes is renowned for his ability to nurture young drivers and has engineered several young drivers to their first podiums including James Courtney, Alex Davison and Tim Slade. When SBR morphed into Erebus he was promoted to Technical Director and oversaw the engineering of the AMG E63 Supercar, culminating in multiple race victories with the team. Shortly after Wes needed surgery for a congenital heart disease, and set up his own business, McDougall Race Developments. Here he worked with a wide variety of cars, including the development of the S5000 single seater, GT3 events, Porsche races, and winning the 2017 Super 2 Series with Todd Hazelwood. In 2018 when MSR moved up to the Supercars Championship Wes worked as Race Engineer with Todd. In 2021 Wes moved to the prestigious Triple Eight Race Engineering team, where he was Jamie Whincup's final full time race engineer culminating in multiple wins, poles and podiums. Wes set up The Complete Race Driver in early 2023.
